Sermon Talkback
Join us on Tuesdays from 8:30-10 am for coffee, home-baked goods and a lively discussion of the sermon (and other topics!) that was delivered the previous Sunday. Come for the conversation, the goodies, the camaraderie, or all of the above! Join us – all are welcome!
You can participate in person in the Marvin Lounge or online via Zoom HERE.
Bible Study
A few times a year Mary McHugh will lead a group in Bible Study. Each session will focus on a book from either the Old or New Testament. Discussion and questions are welcome and encouraged – this is a great opportunity to learn from each other and dig deeper into the history and context of scripture, and explore what it means for our lives today.
Current Study: Esther
Dates & Time: February 13th, March 13th and 27th from 1:30 – 3:00 pm
Join us in exploring the book of Esther. We will be using a study guide by Max Lucado – “You Were Made for this Moment.” If you would like to order the study guide ($11), please let Mary McHugh know or call the Church Office. The guide will be helpful, but you can join the study without it.
Coffee Clatter @ Martone’s
Every Friday at 8 am, Rev. Mark welcomes everyone to come and talk about any subject you would like. We talk politics, camping, travel, church life, community issues … any and everything that comes up. We meet at Martone’s in downtown Essex Junction for one hour ~ join us!
Noontime Book Group
- The book for March is “Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons” by Lorna Landvik.
Wednesday Night Searchers
The Wednesday Night Searchers group explores the faith with a number of different methods: books, movies, TED Talks, directed studies, etc. Please join us Wednesday evenings from 7 – 9 pm in the Marvin Lounge; come for the study or come to be a part of a great supportive group of friends.
Wednesdays 7-9 pm
Marvin Lounge (*masks optional*) and via Zoom
The group is reading & discussing “The Separation of Church and Hate” written by John Fugelsang. Fugelsang is the son of a former nun and former priest and is more widely known as a comedian, political commentator, and entertainer. These are not the typical roles for an author of a book about Christianity, but the book shows he clearly understands and follows Christ’s liberal teachings of compassion, inclusion and love for the poor, the sick and the marginalized.
In this informative, perspective-shifting guide, Fugelsang takes readers through common talking points and arguments—God condemns abortion, gay marriage is a sin, guns are an ordained right, and more—and exposes their hypocrisy and inaccuracy through scripture, philosophy, and plain old common sense.
Bridge Group
Each month people who like to play bridge come together and do just that on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month from 1:30 – 4:00 in the Marvin Lounge. All types of skill levels come to have fun, eat some snacks and talk. We usually have two to three tables and everyone is welcome, so bring a friend!
20/30s Gatherings
Folks in their 20s and 30s gather together for potluck dinners. We connect young adults together for friendship and support discussing a broad range of topics each time. Child care is not provided. To connect with this group, email Pastor Mark, mmendes@fccej.org.
