Children & Youth

Here at First Church, we delight in our children & youth. We welcome and encourage them to participate in all of our faith formation programs which provide a nurturing place to learn, grow in their faith, ask questions and feel closer to God. We hope all who attend First Church see and feel the love of God and the Holy Spirit moving through the children and youth each and every week.

Participate in worship by being an acolyte (lighting and extinguishing the candles – symbolizes that God and Jesus go with us out into the world), read scripture, ring the church bell before worship, be a greeter or an usher along with your family or with a peer group.

We offer many programs for children and youth to be actively involved in developing their faith at First Church:

Nursery

Faith Formation Sunday School

Junior Youth

High School Youth

Confirmation

Vacation Bible Camp

Nursery

On Sunday mornings, our paid Nursery staff are available to care for our youngest little ones during both worship services. We also look for volunteer/parent support so that we meet our ratio of child to caregiver. Our Nursery is equipped with a speaker to hear the worship service, and services are streamed to the adjacent Fellowship Hall.

Faith Formation Sunday School

Our Faith Formation program is for preschool aged children, beginning at age 3, up through senior high youth and takes place during our 10:15am worship service. Children and youth begin in worship with their families and then move to our programs following the Children’s Message. Children in preschool up through eighth grade will gather as a large group before moving to their peer rooms.

Here at First Church, we spend time, like Jesus did, getting to know each other while we learn about God and hear and talk about many stories from the Bible. Bible. Music and singing are woven into our faith formation time through our two youth choirs — Cherubs (preschool & kindergarten) and Joyful Noise (1st – 8th grade). We also like to build relationships with peers as well as inter-generational through our programs of 1st Sunday Spiritual Friends, Hand-On Mission Sundays, and other new programs helping us connect with our community and the world around us.

Junior Youth

Our Junior Youth program is welcome to everyone in 6th – 8th grade. The parent-supported program gathers from September to May.  We build relationships, grow in faith with conversations and mission projects, and have a lot of fun playing games. All are encouraged to join in the fun and bring a friend. Contact: Laurie Chipman & Pastor Josh Simon

High School Youth

The High School youth ministry is open to all youth in 9th-12th grade.  The youth ministry is a safe place for all youth to find themselves growing, laughing, and serving.  The youth group meets throughout the school year at 5-7 pm on Sunday evenings (please check the church calendar for dates).  We share food together and explore our faith and what that means to each of us as we live and share in God’s world.
All youth are welcome!  Bring your questions, bring your friends, and get ready to make new friends. Contact: Pastor Josh Simon

Confirmation

Confirmation is a year-long path to membership for 8th/9th graders and older youth. It is the culmination of baptism and Faith Formation Sunday School. First Church offers a Confirmation Class every 1-2 years, providing weekly classes, field trips to learn about other religious traditions, and service projects. Rev. Mark is the lead teacher.
