Serving Others
First Congregational Church has a long history of service and outreach to meet the needs of our community, both here in Essex and around the world. We are committed to supporting those who have been marginalized in our society, and we continue to explore social justice issues such as LGBTQ equality, the environment, immigration, hunger and affordable housing, to name a few. Local ministries include a food pantry, thrift shop, hosting Essex Eats Out once per month, organizing volunteers to bring meals to Dismas House, supporting JUMP (Joint Urban Ministry Project), and more. We are also home to more than 20 community groups that meet regularly in our church, including Alcoholics Anonymous and three church-chartered Scout troops. Our outreach extends overseas through “Our Church’s Wider Mission” offerings in support of the global ministries of the United Church of Christ.
There are so many ways for YOU to serve and get involved. Help out at the food pantry or thrift shop, join a committee, sing in a musical group, help serve a meal with Essex Eats Out, sign up to usher or greet at one of our services, be a Faith Formation volunteer, help with a youth group….the opportunities are endless. Serving alongside others can be a wonderful way to get to know people, try new things, give something back, and deepen your faith.
We would love to have you share your time and talent with us. Together, we can BE THE CHURCH. To learn more, visit:
