Your Children in Worship

Here at First Church, we delight in our children & youth. All are encouraged to sign up and volunteer to ring the church bell before worship begins, participate as Acolytes (3rd grade and older) who light and extinguish our worship candles, as Ushers (with their family, group or class) who hand you your bulletin and collect the morning offering, as Greeters (with their family, group or class) who welcome you to church, and a part of our Cherub & Joyful Noise music groups. Their artwork and creativity can be found on our walls and they are celebrated every Sunday during our Children’s Messages. One Sunday a year (in late winter or early spring) they lead us in worship. We hope that everyone who attends First Church sees and feels the love of God & the Holy Spirit moving through the children and youth each and every week.
All children begin in worship with their families. Our weekly faith formation programs start after the children’s message in worship.

Our paid Nursery staff will welcome you during both of our worship services. We are also volunteer/parent supported so that we meet our ratio of children to caregiver. Our Nursery room has a speaker so that worship services can be heard from there and is located right beside our Fellowship Hall that has a video feed of the worship service.

Faith Formation Sunday School

Our Faith Formation program is for preschool aged children, beginning at age 3, up through senior high youth and takes place during our 10:15am worship service. Children and youth begin in worship with their families and move to our programs following the Children’s Message. Our preschool up through sixth grade gather for music time at the beginning of their Faith Formation time.

Here at First Church we spend time, like Jesus did, getting to know each other while we learn about God and many stories from the Bible. We have inter-generational times with some of our senior members from the congregation, as well as multi-age activity days when we work on group projects for mission or activities that help us connect with our community and world around us.

Junior Youth

Junior Youth

Our Junior Youth program is welcome to everyone in 5th – 8th grade. The group gathers twice a month from October to May from 11:30-1:30pm. This is a parent supported youth program; parents sign up to provide a meal and 1-2 parents help at each gathering.  We build relationships and grow in faith as we share our meal, have great conversation, work on a mission project and play games.

All youth are encouraged to join in the fun and bring a friend. Contact: Rev. Josh Simon & Laurie Chipman

High School Youth

The High School youth ministry is open to all youth in 9th-12th grade.  The youth ministry is a safe place for all youth to find themselves growing, laughing, and serving.  The youth group meets throughout the school year at 5-7 pm on Sunday evenings (please check the church calendar for dates).  We share food together and explore our faith and what that means to each of us as we live and share in God’s world.
All youth are welcome!  Bring your questions, bring your friends, and get ready to make new friends. Contact: Rev. Josh Simon

Confirmation is a year-long path to membership to ninth graders and above and is the culmination of baptism and Sunday School. First Church provides a Confirmation Class every other year and includes weekly classes, field trips to other religious traditions and projects, Rev. Mark is the lead teacher.

Vacation Bible Camp

Vacation Bible Camp at First Church is a great opportunity for children of all ages in our community to discover God and grow in their faith while getting to know new friends. Campers have fun at several stations each day; these stations include crafts, games, discovery, Bible drama, music, and snack. VBC is open to toddlers (and their parents) up through children going into 5th grade. Older youth, college age and adult helpers keep this program strong and running smoothly. 2018 Vacation Bible Camp is scheduled for August 6th – 10th from 9:00 am – 11:45 am. The theme this year is Rolling River Rampage: Experience the Ride of a Lifetime with God! Please save the date and stay tuned for more information.
