Children & Youth at First Church

Families having fun celebrating the beginning of our Faith Formation Sunday School year at Rally Day.

Your Children in Worship

Here at First Church, we delight in our children & youth. All are encouraged to sign up and volunteer to ring the church bell before worship begins, participate as Acolytes (3rd grade and older) who light and extinguish our worship candles, as Ushers (with their family, group or class) who hand you your bulletin and collect the morning offering, as Greeters (with their family, group or class) who welcome you to church, and a part of our Cherub & Joyful Noise music groups. Their artwork and creativity can be found on our walls and they are celebrated every Sunday during our Children’s Messages. One Sunday a year (in late winter or early spring) they lead us in worship. We hope that everyone who attends First Church sees and feels the love of God & the Holy Spirit moving through the children and youth each and every week.
All children begin in worship with their families. Our weekly faith formation programs start after the children’s message in worship.

Nursery

Our paid Nursery staff will welcome you during both of our worship services. We are also volunteer/parent supported so that we meet our ratio of children to caregiver. Our Nursery room has a speaker so that worship services can be heard from there and is located right beside our Fellowship Hall that has a video feed of the worship service.

Faith Formation Sunday School

Our Faith Formation program is for preschool aged children, beginning at age 3, up through senior high youth and takes place during our 10:15am worship service. Children and youth begin in worship with their families and move to our programs following the Children’s Message. Our preschool up through sixth grade gather for music time at the beginning of their Faith Formation time.

Here at First Church we spend time, like Jesus did, getting to know each other while we learn about God and many stories from the Bible. We have inter-generational times with some of our senior members from the congregation, as well as multi-age activity days when we work on group projects for mission or activities that help us connect with our community and world around us.

Junior Youth

Junior Youth

Our Junior Youth program is welcome to everyone in 5th & 6th grade. The group gathers once a month from October to May from 11:30-1:30pm. This is a parent supported youth program; 2-3 parents help at all our gatherings as we eat a meal, share where we have seen the Spirit of God among us during the week and work on a mission project.
All youth are encouraged to join in the fun and bring a friend. Contact: Laurie Chipman

Junior High  and Senior High Youth

The Jr. High youth ministry is open to all youth in 7th & 8th grade and the Sr. High youth ministry is open to all youth in 9th-12th grade.  The youth ministry is a safe place for all youth to find themselves growing, laughing, and serving.  Both youth groups meet throughout the school year at the times listed below.  We share food together and explore our faith and what that means to each of us as we live and share in God’s world.
All youth are welcome!  Bring your questions, bring your friends, and get ready to make new friends. Contact: Devon Thomas and Erica Garvey
