Events celebrating our 150 years in the greater Essex community

1867 Church Service – February 12

This was an “old-timey” replica service with several participants dressing in period apparel. A visitor to the church would have thought that they had been caught in a time machine! There were some accommodations to our modern sensibilities; the cushions remained in the pews and the service was more abbreviated than it would have been at that time.

Memorial Day parade – May 27

Some creative members of the church worked hard to create a float for the parade that is a replica of our lovely building. Many members joined together to walk in the parade and carry banners that show the many different ways that our church supports many organizations in our community. It was a beautiful day for a parade, and the hard work of the builders garnered an award for the “Most Creative” float.

Historical skit – August 9

Members of the Historical Committee are preparing a skit about our church’s history that will be presented in conjunction with the Essex Community Historical Society’s 2017 Tales and Treasures series. Some actors and actresses have been recruited, but more are needed. If you are interested, please contact a member of the 150th Anniversary Committee.

Year-end celebration – October 20

A dinner celebration will be held at the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds. Catering details are still being worked out, so stay tuned for cost and information for the purchase of tickets.

Celebratory Service – November 5

John Dorhauer, President of the United Church of Christ, will preach at both services and there will be a reception after each service. We are so excited to have him join us in our celebration!
